What We Do With Your Face.

The most identifying data there is, and a plain answer about what happens to it.

VisageAir · Your data

Editor's note: This is part of VisageAir Explained, a series describing who we are, what we make, and the principles that guide our work.

A face photo is some of the most identifying information a person can hand over. It is you, recognizably, in a way that a step count or a sleep score never is. Most companies that want this data tell you they value your privacy. We would rather tell you what we actually do.

VisageAir™ turns one photo into a calm view of how your face changes over time. The honest tension in that sentence is the word photo: the product only works because your face goes through it. So we owe you a plain answer to the obvious question: if your face goes in, what happens to it?

How we think about where the work happens

The photo is used for one job, producing your own face trend and a short neutral summary of what changed, for you. It is not used for advertising, it is not used to build a profile of you, and it is not used to guess things about you that you did not ask about. Typed details like age, height, and weight are optional, separate, and never inferred from the picture.

We treat the photo as biometric-sensitive data everywhere, not only where the law requires it. Our standard for any pilot: encrypted in transit and at rest, access limited to the people and systems that need it to produce your result, and every access logged.

How we think about the business

Our business model is not based on monetizing personal data. We are not in the business of selling the people who come to us; our business is an honest wellness view of your own face over time. We say it that plainly because the difference between a company that serves you and a company that sells you should never require a lawyer to find. We will not sell your face photo, your measurements, or your trend. Ever.

How we think about your choices

Consent is explicit and written to be read, not scrolled past. Before a photo is taken, you see what is captured, what comes out, who can see it, that it is general wellness information and not a medical verdict, and how to withdraw. Withdrawing deletes the photo and the measurements derived from it. Sharing with anyone is your action, under your consent. It is never presumed.

We will not use your photo to train models without a separate, specific, opt-in consent. That is a separate question with a separate checkbox, and the default answer is no.

How we think about what the system learns

The product gets better from patterns in aggregate, which kinds of face change tracked with which wellness journeys, not from knowing you by name. Where we use de-identified data, we commit to keeping it de-identified, to not attempting re-identification, and to binding anyone who receives it to the same rule.

How we think about being early

We are early, and some of what is described here is architecture and commitment rather than shipped product. Retention periods, for one, are being finalized and will be published before any pilot begins. We would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. The commitments are the point of writing this down now: they are easiest to make before there is pressure to bend them, and hardest to walk back once they are published.

Our Privacy Policy, our Consumer Health Data Policy, and our Terms are the governing documents for how information is handled. They say in legal language what this installment says in plain language. If those ever disagree, that is a defect; tell us, and we will fix it.
